Olive Street Smokehouse

Long time admin, first time poster :) We have discovered this new little hole in the wall smokehouse in Creve Coeur near my office....The Olive Street Smokehouse (1227 Castillion Arcade Plaza). We came across this little gem one morning when we were shockingly hungry and it was hot outside! Added bonus, they deliver! While I will admit I haven't sampled much on the menu, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the Chicken Bacon Ranch Salad and the potato salad. My co-workers would highly recommend anything that has the pulled pork on it. They have a nice variety of sauces to help spice up your meal.

It is definiltely moderately priced and delicious!!! Try it and let me know what you think. The menu isn't huge but the portions are a great size!

Gillio's Pizza

Don't worry.  I'm still alive.  It's only been two months since my last post! Tisk.  Tisk.

Onto more important business.. like eating your feelings.

I was feeling FABULOUS Friday night, so I ate my WHOLE half of pizza.  That's right.  WHOLE.  HALF.  Gillio's Pizza is family owned and offers a variety of goodies.  I can't tell you what they are, because I've only had pizza.  And I've never had to make the order myself.  Wes usually calls before to order, so I never even have to look at the menu.  So, I'm serious about not knowing what else they have.  Wait, I have seen a calzone before!  So, we know they have pizza and calzone.

Just go.  You won't be disappointed.

Washington DC Eats!

Hi! I just got back from DC!

We grabbed cupcakes at Georgetown Cupcake (Possibly better recognized as DC Cupcakes, as in the show on TLC). They were amazing! I'm not just saying that. They were fabulous! Perfect size and everything! I had chocolate banana (cake comes first, so chocolate cake, banana icing) and it was TO DIE FOR! Roommates had milk chocolate birthday and vanilla chocolate.

We grabbed Mexican on Capitol Hill, don't know the spot, but if you're interested... I will find out! It was delish!

Lunched at Ollie's Trolley, famous for their french fries aka "Olliefries." We all had some, some said too many spices. I loved them! We all also had burgers. They were totally amazing!

Got dressed up for dinner at Tabard Inn, that was a treat! I had the crab cake, it was ridiculously delicious. Wes had sirloin, I think? It was ridiculously delicious. Katie had pasta with ragu and goat meat, also ridiculously delicious. Allie had curried macadamia encrusted flounder, also ridiculously delicious. Matt had quail, lamb and rabbit sausage. I only tried the quail from his smorgasbord, and whadda ya know.. also ridiculously delicious. Today's lesson: Go eat at Tabard Inn.

Had pizza at Bugsy's in Old Alexandria. Pizza was great! We branched out and had deep dish, the "thin crust" appeared to be more like hand tossed. Not like the St. Louis thin crust we're used to.

Also, while you're in DC, get a hot dog off the street. Careful, they're hot!... as in spicy!

Eleven Eleven Mississippi, Red Robin (Yum!)

Happy Tuesday after Memorial Day Weekend!

Friday, Wes and I went back to Eleven Eleven Mississippi. This time I had their house dressing on my starter salad. It's so freakin' good! The house dressing is a strawberry vinigariette and it is awesome! For dinner I had the appetizer crab cakes. They, too, were delish! And then, gooey butter cake for dessert. Again, amazing. Wes had the bacon wrapped tenderloin, def better than my crab cakes. He always gets better food.

Have you been yet?

Mom, Dad, and I ate at Red Robin after golf yesterday. I was starving. So, naturally, I inhaled my food. I had the turkey burker and paid an extra 79 cents for sweet potato fries instead of steak fries. Best decision of the weekend. They were SO good! I even got a refill. Yes, sweet potato fries are bottomless, too! The turkey burger was superb. Turkey had great flavor and was perfectly cooked.

Palmer's Deli

Over the weekend, I was at Palmer's Deli again. This time I had the egg salad. It's not better than the chicken salad. I also had a chocolate chip cookie, it was amazing, as usual! Mom and Mary had Greek salads, they looked wonderful! But I didn't have any. And Emily had the egg salad, too. Mom and Mary had molasses cookies, they were drooling. Em had the biggest rice krispie treat you'll ever see. She giggled with delight as she ate it. I'm just kidding, but it's that good. Mom and Mary weren't drooling either. The rest of our food was home made! You gotta go to Mary Alice's house to get it. Sorry 'bout your luck.

Speaking of Chicken Salad, Mary Alice holds title to JESSICA'S FAVORITE CHICKEN SALAD. And I'm not just saying that because she's about to read this. I think I had three sandwiches!

TGI Fridays

HEY-OH!

Last night my bf took me to TGI Friday's for din-din. It was yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmyyy! We ordered a surf-n-turf with some type of meat for him, and salmon for me. We ordered one of those appetizer and entre things for $16.99 or $19.99. Know what I'm talkin' bout? We got fried green beans for our app, so delicious, the best out there! And with our meal came two sides. I got broccoli, Wes got steak fries. Only downside, Wes got exactly six steak fries, and I got a whole forest of broccoli. Otherwise, the meat was awesome! I very much like Friday's. I prefer their not-so-good-for-you food, like the Friday's Tostado Nachos. AMAZING!

This weekend I'm headed to Iowa. I can't wait to go to Palmer's, hopefully more than once. Oh, and see my family.

Have I Mentioned The Sports Attic?

The Sports Attic in Brentwood is amazing! Here's the address:

8212 Manchester Rd.
Saint Louis, MO 63144

I know Saturday nights are karaoke, I'm pretty sure Friday nights, too. Anyway, food is awesome! So far our favorites are the quesadilla, french fries, potato skins and buffalo chicken salad. Atmosphere is awesome, too. A local sports bar, kind of dive-y, but caters to all ages.

Go soon.

Cheesecake Factory, rambling

A little bit ago, Mom and I ate at Cheesecake Factory. We both got turkey burgers and sweet potato fries. It was DELISH!!

As filler, have you been to FroYo? Or something with a different name but similar to FroYo? Probably. What's your fav? I usually go for vanilla with fruits. Usually stick to bananas and strawberries.

And Olive Garden. Hello, best chain restaurant ever. I love the salad and bread sticks, of course. And usually I get the Fettuccine Alfredo, no chicken. But lately, I've opted for healthier entrees. Like the Apricot Chicken. I prefer Fettuccine Alfredo.

We bought some turkey hot dogs from Dierberg's over the weekend. They're amazing! I wish I could remember the brand!

Jason's Deli, Stadium Food, and Cicero's.

Mom and I went to Jason's Deli when we were in Iowa a couple of month's ago. I had their chicken salad. It was awesome. But, when we were back a week ago (in the Chesterfield Valley), we ordered Caesar Salads, with chicken. The chicken was totally awesome! I didn't eat much dressing, but would have liked to, because it was delicious, as well.

And, in honor of Opening Days everywhere, I thought I'd chat about Stadium food, the REAL reason I go to baseball games. I'm just kidding, St. Louis.

I was lucky enough to attend Opening Day with my wonderful bf, and sat next to some pretty fun dudes. Rich, Matt and Chris? I dubbed them LFO, because of Rich.. I don't remember the names of all LFO band mates, and clearly, I don't remember the names of the cool guys I sat next to at the game.. except for Rich. ANYWAY, Rich was all about trying the new food. The only one I witnessed was the Brat-zel.  As in, bratwurst wrapped in soft pretzel. He said it was pretty dece. I, however, do not like bratwurst. Gimme a pretzel-dog.

The most popular new item seems to be the Bacon Wrapped BBQ Dog. When Rich went to order, they were all out. And it was post 7th inning, which means no more booze, so Rich came back empty handed. Poor, Rich. I stick to the usuals.. Hot dog, nachos, french fries and bud light. Has anyone had stadium french fries? Ours are AMAZING!!

Here's the article about Busch Stadium's new stuff.

Saturday night, we went out to Cicero's in the loop, to see a friend's friend's band. I had Cicero's Chicken Club Salad. It was GREAT! The chicken was fabulous and the Ranch dressing was UNREAL! I will def be back to try more food!

Majestic

Happy 2 days before the St. Louis Cardinal's Home Opener!

Over the weekend we ate at Majestic. A totally awesome, dive-y, diner-ish spot in the heart of the Central West End. Majestic is on the corner of Laclede and Euclid.. or Euclid and Laclede, you can't miss it! We were there for their Greek Independence Day celebration and had a blast! The kitchen stayed open until 11pm, which I believe is normal, like.. they weren't staying open later just for us. I had a Greek Salad, it was totally delish! I don't usually never order Greek Salads, but had read on somebody's review how good they were, so I obviously had to try one! It did not disappoint! I also had a gyro, of course. I think their 'original' gyro. Meat, feta cheese, a few slices of tomato and onions, in a pita. I dumped the onions, because that's what I do. Regardless, it was to die for! I tried a couple of steak fries.. they were just your average steak fries, but we ate them all! And then, of course, I went home with a generous helping of Baklava! This was my first memorable experience with Baklava and it was so melt-in-your-mouth, amazing!! I have the ultimate hook-up at Majestic, so if you're dying to bring Baklava home to your momma, you better contact me, so I can contact Louie.

If I had stars to give, I would give Majestic 6 stars, on a 5-star-scale. For atmosphere, food, fun and overall experience.

Fox and Hound and Syberg's

Saturday night, Mom, Dad and I went to Fox and Hound in the Valley. Umm, it was ok. Service wasn't great. I couldn't tell if the girl was new and nervous, or just weird. Dad asked for a Miller Geniue Draft. She had to go check on it. Returned in about 15 minutes, said no. Dad asked for Bud Select. She returned in about 15 minutes with a Bud Light. We wouldn't have noticed the Bud Light versus Bud Select, except that she asked dad if he wanted another Bud Light, when his Bud Light was still half full. I guess she's a pessimist. I ordered Mahi Mahi with Broccoli instead of rice. I inhaled it. And it was good. Mom had a Cobb salad, and added grilled chicken. The chicken was delicious. Very tender. And dad had a cheese burger. I think he liked it. The french fry (notice singular!) I had was ok.

Sunday night, Mom, Dad, Wes and I went to Syberg's. This was my second time. First time I ordered apps and they were all delicious (potato skins, fries, sampler, wings, etc). This time I ordered their D'Angelo Grilled Chicken Salad (Mom, too). It is tossed in their originial wing sauce, which isn't terrible. I thought it was very mayonnaise-y (Wes, too), however, couldn't be! Because it was in the fat burning zone! Anyway, I didn't eat much of it, because it was so spicy! And, to be honest, I've had enough salad for 16 million rabbits. Thank you, 17 Day Diet. Wes had wings and fries, he liked both. His wings had the same sauce our salads did. Dad had a cajun burger. He doesn't usually order anything cajun, I think he liked it. And, of course, the French Fry I had was great!

Fox and Hound is in the valley, I hear they have great pizza. I'm not sure if there is another one in the St. Louis Metropolitan area. Syberg's is downtown, at Dorsett and 270 and in the valley.

BRAVO! BRAVO!

Yesterday, Wes and I went to Bravo! for lunch.. I think younger brother of the restaurant Brio. Anyway, I'd been to Brio, this was my first time at Bravo!, Wes's too.

Of course they bring bread.. Wes said it wasn't so great.. he said it tasted like Hardee's biscuits, haha. (I make him eat everything I can't and tell me about it, darn you 17 Day Diet!) (10 more days!) We both ordered the Bravo! Chopped Salad.. with Italian Dressing, I'm assuming their house dressing.. it was very good. I ate very minimal dressing, I knew that wasn't allowed on the diet. Wes ordered the Classico Pepperoni Pizza and ate most of it, it musta been great.. I know he was starving.. food is always more delicious when you're starving. I ordered Tilapia with Crab on it. It was amazing! Too delicious for the 17 Day Diet. It came with a butter sauce that was already on the plate, but I tried to eat from the other no-butter side of the tilapia. The Crab was amaze, too! The veggies were totally cooked in butter, too. So basically, I cheated without intending to cheat! I should have just had Wes's pizza!

I will definitely go back when I can eat like the champ I am!

If you're in STL, Bravo! is at West County Mall, Brio is in the parking lot at Plaza Frontenac.

Cheesecake Factory

Hiya!

Last night my bf took me to the Cheesecake Factory. I wouldn't have normally picked the Cheesecake Factory, because portions are ridic, and I eat every thing (first I wrote 'everyone' haha) on my plate. Just like my mom tells me to do. So, Mom and I started the 17 Day Diet. Gasp! But, basically guaranteed you lose 10 lbs in the first 17 days. And anyone can do anything for 17 days, right? 1 down, 16 to go. Anyway, on the diet.. you eat all the veggies you want, only two fruits and before 2 pm, lean meats.. mostly chicken and fish.. and two probiotics (yogurt, cottage cheese, kefir, etc).. Why am I telling you this? Because, last night at Cheesecake Factory, I couldn't get the delish taquitos (appetizer), I usually prefer.. I had to get chicken and veggies.. so I ordered the Grilled Chicken Medallions.. they were SO WONDERFUL!!

I don't go to Cheesecake much, so I haven't been through the menu. But I think the food is pretty good in general. St. Louis has one at Chesterfield Mall, and the Galleria.. I haven't seen it anywhere else. Have you?

Culpepper's CWE

Sunday, Wes and I ate at the Culpepper's in the Central West End. The address is on N. Euclid.. but it's at the corner of Euclid and Maryland. We sat outside and service wasn't great. But the place was pretty busy.. we cut our waitress some slack, we could tell she was working hard! We both ordered wings.. Wes said Houlihan's wings were better, I haven't had those yet.. I went for boneless wings.. easier to eat in wind, and with my hair blowing all around.. Wes said he used to go for boneless as well, but wings with bones are better. And he's right. Go for bones.

I ordered a salad, too. Our waitress asked if bacon and something else were ok, and I said yes, but I didn't have bacon nor that something else on my salad, so I was a bit confused by that. And that salad was just ok. Wes had a BLT, no T and I think, liked it. The french fries are great.. I ate some of his.

If it's a nice day, go to the CWE and eat outside. There's lots of places to eat and lots going on. It's especially great for people watching! Bring your shades, so no one can see your eyeballs!

Eleven Eleven Mississippi

Saturday night, we ate at Eleven Eleven Mississippi. If you live in St. Louis, this also happens to be the address. I loved every minute of it. We had a gift certificate, so we definitely indulged! We started with a bottle of muscato, yum yum! The bread was some type of focaccia and totally amazing! And of course there was Parmesan cheese and olive oil for your dipping pleasure. We both had salads to begin with.. I went for their ranch dressing.. a bacon-y ranch.. it was good, but Wes's strawberry vinaigrette was to die for! SO flavorful. And that is their house dressing, so get it when you go. For dinner, I had potato encrusted grouper, it was delish.. a little rubbery.. in the past, my groupers have been a little more like pulled pork, when it came to the texture.. I don't know which way is "better" but I prefer the pulled pork texture. And I'm a huge texture snob. I substituted my celery puree (instant gag.. I hate celery) for sweet potato puree, had some lobster sauce and roasted asparagus.. Wes had a steak (it was one of the specials), it was delish and red onion mashed potatoes and asparagus, also.. I wish I would have gotten what Wes got.. His had so much more flavor than mine did. For dessert, I had gooey butter cake, it was FABULOUS! You know how some gooey butters are a little more custard-y runny.. this was more cake-y.. Again, texture people! I prefer cake-y. And Wes had strawberry ice cream and some type of dessert cocktail that we couldn't even drink half off.. it was SO strong. It burnt anything it touched.

The ambiance was fantastic! You walk in the door, directly to the hostess stand. Can stay on that level, which appeared to be more bar-y, I think there were TVs, too. Or head upstairs for a more dinner-y atmosphere. It was total city, loft style with exposed cielings, which I adored. Parking seemed readily available. There were a handful of spots in front, or free parallel parking across the street. Also a couple of lots, maybe even a garage. We definitely can't afford to frequent Eleven Eleven Mississippi, but I would def go again!

Look for the yellow awnings!

You're The Wind Beneath My Wings..

TGIF!

In today's paper, we found a chicken wing review. I've only been to two out of the six restaurants listed, however, I've added the other four to my list of places to eat.. as well as places to eat WINGS. I've never been much of a wing eater.. then I went to Culpepper's one night, like in December. And if you go to Culpepper's you have to get wings. It's like the law. Since then, I've basically craved the little suckers. It brings me back to my cave woman days.. no it doesn't. But they're delicious! I leave a lot of meat on the bone, so sometimes I opt for boneless wings. I'm just not sure of the difference between boneless wings and fingers and tenders.. anyway, here's the article.

Wings of desire: 6 great spots for chicken wings

Ok, so. The review is based on each restaurant's 'original' sauce.. of course most of these places have more than one recipe.. so when the reviewers bitch complain about it not being spicy enough, HELLO, order the spicier sauce.

I've been to..
Culpepper's: Love the wings.. I ordered the sweet and spicy, maybe Honey BBQish.. I don't recall the mixed dipping sauce (Life Sherpa says mix of blue cheese and peppercorn ranch).. but maybe I asked for ranch, so they brought me ranch (a plus). I also remember thinking and talking to my dinner partners about how they were so crispy, but chewy or meaty and juicy.. I really wanted to order more..

and Syberg's: Comparable to Culpepper's, I thought.. crispy and juicy/chewy/meaty, very delish. I think I had their sweet and spicy, too.. don't roll your eyes, I didn't know I would have to remember this information when I was there! Life Sherpa and Beer Guy talk about mustard sauce?? Well, I definitely had nothing remotely close to mustard, because I find mustard to be disgusting!

Have a great weekend! Eat up!

Bingo.

Q: How cute are we that My Name is Hungry's inaugural post came on Valentine's Day!
A: Soooooooooooooooooooooo cute!

Welcome to My Name is Hungry.

Mary and I are here as your go-to girls for restaurant reviews. We're no food critics, and we don't expect our reviews to influence you if you are a food critic.. we're just regular peeps, that like to eat and drink, and prefer a satisfying breakfast (lunch, or dinner) out experience.

I hate when I'm with a group of people and every one's answer to, "Where do you wanna eat?" is "I don't care." or "I don't know." UGH, frustration. Do you really want me to choose? I wish someone would have come up with this oh so helpful and awesome idea when I was in college.. when more time was spent driving around our 5-mile-radius college town, instead of at the restaurant itself!

Soon, we're gonna have an app for this. That's right. I said it.

Happy Eating!
